Microneedling in Buckhead & Atlanta: What Actually Happens, Session by Session

Most patients new to microneedling start with a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Acne scarring or more established texture often starts at six. Visible change usually begins five to ten days after a session, with full results around one month.

One of the first questions we hear about microneedling is, “How many sessions will I need?”

The honest answer is that it depends on what you want to change. Someone in the maintenance stage of their treatment may do one treatment a few times a year. A patient new to the treatment typically starts with a series of 3 treatments to improve skin texture and tone, and someone with acne scarring or more noticeable texture may start with 6 treatments.

Microneedling works by creating controlled microchannels that prompt the skin’s natural repair response. New collagen develops gradually, so microneedling isn’t a one-day transformation, but a progression over time. Here is what that often looks like at Skinship.

Appointments run about 45–60 minutes including numbing. Visible changes often begin 5–10 days after a session, with full results around one month. Series of 3 are offered as a package at a discounted rate.

Your First Microneedling Session: Establishing a Baseline

Before treatment, your provider evaluates your skin and gets specific about your goal. “I want better skin” is a perfectly reasonable place to start, but the plan becomes more useful when we identify what better means to you. Is it softer acne scarring? Smoother texture? Less visible pores? More even-looking tone?

That conversation determines how we customize the treatment and whether microneedling alone or adding on enhancements such as PRP, exosomes, or Sculptra is appropriate.

At the appointment, we cleanse the skin and apply topical numbing cream before using the microneedling device. Most patients describe the treatment as a light pressure or vibrating sensation. Including numbing and preparation, appointments generally take about 45 to 60 minutes.

Immediately afterward, some patients look pink or slightly sunburned while others look totally normal. Most patients look normal again the next day, while others may experience some dryness for a few days following the treatment.

Once that initial recovery passes, many patients notice a fresher look and smoother feel. At Skinship, visible changes often begin around five to ten days after treatment, with full results kicking in about one month after treatment. That early glow is encouraging, but it is only the beginning of the collagen-building process.

Your Second Session: Building on the First Response

The second appointment is not simply a repeat of the first. It gives us a chance to see how your skin responded and adjust the plan if needed. The second treatment helps build on the repair response already underway, encouraging additional collagen production in new layers of the skin.

This is often when patients begin noticing practical changes: makeup sits more smoothly, certain areas feel less rough, or the edges of acne scars start to look softer. The results should look gradual and natural, not like your face changed overnight. Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart so the skin has time to recover and remodel.

Your Third Session: When a Series Starts to Come Together

By the third appointment, we have more useful information than we had on day one. We can compare photos, look at how the skin has healed between visits, and decide whether the original plan is producing the right kind of improvement.

For patients treating acne scars or more established texture concerns, this is often where progress becomes easier to see. Individual scars may appear softer, skin can look more even, and the overall surface may feel smoother. Results vary, and deeper concerns may require additional sessions, but the changes are cumulative.

That is also why consistent photos matter. Day-to-day changes can be difficult to notice when you see your own face every morning. Images taken in the same lighting and from the same angle give us a much clearer view of what is changing.

Do You Need Three Sessions, Six Sessions, or Just One?

There is no magic number that works for everyone. At Skinship, we recommend starting with three and adding additional treatments as needed. As we continue to age, maintaining these results is important. We recommend 3 to 4 treatments on an annual basis for maintenance after your initial series. At Skinship we offer microneedling packages in series of 3 at a discounted rate.

When Will You See the Final Result?

Microneedling rewards a little patience. The short-term glow appears first, while collagen remodeling continues beneath the surface over the following weeks and months. This means your skin may continue improving even when you are no longer in the immediate post-treatment window.

Your daily habits matter too. Consistent SPF protects your results and lessens future damage that needs to be corrected. At-home skincare works to support your results between appointments. More products are not always better, especially during recovery. We will tell you what to pause, what to keep, and when to restart your usual active ingredients.
